Milwaukee Tattoo removal is a relatively quick procedure. The amount of time the treatment will take is largely dependent on the size of the tattoo. A common question we get is: how long will my appointment/treatment take? To help answer that question, we are going to walk through a typical laser tattoo removal treatment appointment.
Photos and questions
First, Dr. Brotzman will photograph your tattoo. This allows us to document the fading process. It is also fun to see how much a tattoo fades as the treatments progress. When you see the tattoo everyday, it is hard to gauge the level of fading. Pictures help with that.
After photos are taken, Dr. Brotzman will ask you a few questions. Any problems after the last treatment? Any new medications? For women, he will also ask if there is any chance of pregnancy or if your are breastfeeding. All of these questions are intended to ensure that you are still a good candidate for laser tattoo removal.
Once it is verified you are still a good candidate for laser tattoo removal it is time for the treatment and use of “frosty”, the cooling machine. The cooling machine will be aimed at the tattoo before the treatment until the skin is somewhat numb which helps to reduce discomfort during treatment as well as reduce chances for blistering by keeping the skin cool. Once the skin is cooled it is time for the laser treatment.
The actual treatment is where the time is going to vary a bit. It depends on the size of the tattoo and the density of the ink. Small tattoos that could be covered with a quarter should only take 15 seconds or less to treat. Larger tattoos or tattoos that contain multiple colors will may need to be treated with multiple lasers and will take longer to complete the treatment. In general, a 5 inch black ink tattoo will take about 5 minutes to treat.
Bandaging and Aftercare
After the treatment is completed, the area will be covered with petroleum jelly and a bandage. Your next treatment will be scheduled for 6-8 weeks out and you will be sent on your way!
