There are countless ways to strengthen and support your immune system to optimize your laser tattoo removal results. We have talked about many of them – drinking water, exercising, quitting smoking, vitamins and healthy eating are just a few. The reason for this is because it is your body that actually does the grunt work of removing a tattoo. The laser blasts the ink into pieces and it is your immune system that works to rid your body of the ink. One practice that many claim helps stimulate the flow of he lymphatic system is dry skin brushing. Here are some do’s and don’ts of the practice:
- Don’t brush over the area that has recently been tattooed or that is currently being treated for tattoo removal. The goal of dry skin brushing is to stimulate the lymphatic system – not aid in scrubbing or exfoliating the tattoo off. The skin where the tattoo is being removed is delicate. Treat it as such.
- Do use a natural bristle brush with a long handle. You will want the handle to be long so that you have a good reach. Dry natural brushes can be found at a variety of health food stores.
- Do brush towards your heart. Experts in dry brushing recommend starting with the soles of your feet and working your way to your legs, arms, then trunk. Do not brush any sensitive areas, such as your face, genitals, or areas with cuts or rashes.
- Don’t apply too much pressure. While brushing the skin, apply a pressure that is firm but doesn’t cause pain. When you finish, your skin should be pink – not red and irritated. Brushing can be done for as long as you prefer – usually anywhere from two to ten minutes.
Does it work? Massage therapists, naturopaths, dermatologist, and countless others recommend dry brushing as a detoxification and exfoliation method that is good for your skin. While there is little evidence available that it can help you remove a tattoo faster, anything that could stimulate the lymphatic system is beneficial for ridding yourself of the toxins accumulated through tattoo ink.
